Privacy Policy

ClipSync is designed to respect your privacy and minimize data collection.
This page explains what data is handled, how long it is stored, and how it is protected.

1. Data Collection & Temporary Storage

ClipSync stores the text, images, and files you share within a room according to the room plan.

  • Free-room items are stored for up to 24 hours, then automatically deleted from the server
  • Pro items are retained while the subscription is active, subject to the Pro storage and item limits
  • You can delete room items from the app, but the service is not a backup service
  • Free rooms are intended for temporary sharing; Pro is intended for ongoing access within its limits

2. Room Codes & Anonymity

ClipSync does not require accounts or personal information.

  • Rooms are identified by randomly generated room codes
  • Anyone with the room code can access the content in that room
  • Room codes are designed to be hard to guess
  • Your identity is not required to use the service

You are responsible for keeping your room code private.

3. Communication Security

Data is transmitted between your device and the server using WebSocket connections.

  • ClipSync uses encrypted HTTPS/WSS connections to protect your data in transit
  • All communication between your devices and the server is encrypted
  • Reasonable technical measures are used to protect data in transit
  • No online service can guarantee absolute security

Do not share sensitive or confidential information using ClipSync.

4. Server Logs

For operational and security purposes, basic server logs may be collected:

  • Connection timestamps
  • IP addresses
  • Technical error information

These logs are:

  • Used only for reliability, debugging, and abuse prevention
  • Not linked to your clipboard content
  • Not used for tracking or profiling users

5. No Third-Party Sharing

ClipSync does not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties.

  • Clipboard content is only visible to devices in your room
  • Data is not used for advertising or analytics profiling
  • No clipboard content is shared outside your room

6. Rate Limiting

Rate Limiting

  • ClipSync applies rate limits to operations (text sharing, file uploads, downloads, etc.)
  • Limits are applied per device to ensure fair usage
  • Rate limits are designed to accommodate normal usage patterns
  • If you exceed a rate limit, you will receive a notification and can retry after the limit resets

7. Privacy-First Analytics

ClipSync uses privacy-first analytics to understand usage patterns and improve the service.

Analytics Approach

  • ClipSync uses Umami Analytics, a privacy-focused analytics platform
  • No cookies are used for analytics
  • No personal information is collected

What is Tracked

  • Page views and session duration (aggregated)
  • Usage patterns (text items shared, files uploaded - counts and sizes only)
  • Feature adoption (which features are used, not who uses them)
  • Technical errors and connection status (for reliability improvements)
  • Device heartbeat (to estimate concurrent active devices)
  • Contextual feedback lifecycle events (eligible, shown, selected, dismissed, submitted, and ignored), with the prompt version, feedback type/source, and coarse action count/action-day values

What is NOT Tracked

  • ❌ No clipboard content or file names
  • ❌ No personal information
  • ❌ No cross-site tracking
  • ❌ No advertising profiling
  • ❌ No raw device identifiers (only hashed values)

All analytics data is pseudonymous and cannot be linked back to you as an individual.

Contextual Feedback

Returning users may see an anonymous feedback card after repeated successful use of a room. The contextual V1 flow sends the selected feedback type, stable category labels, optional message, coarse usage values (action count and action days), and a client-generated submission ID so a retry does not create a duplicate. It does not send a room code, room hash, clipboard content, file name, or email address. A device token is used transiently for abuse-prevention rate limiting and is not stored in the feedback record or included in analytics. The submission IP address is retained with the feedback record for abuse prevention and operational security.

Feedback records are delivered to our designated ClipSync feedback administrators through a Telegram notification and are stored on the server for up to 365 days. Access is limited to those designated administrators and the systems required to operate the service. The contextual card never asks for an email address. The permanent manual Feedback form is a separate flow: it remains available at any time and may include an optional email address for follow-up.

8. Cookies, Local Storage & Tracking

ClipSync minimizes client-side storage:

  • Browser localStorage is used for:
    • Remembering your last room code for convenience
    • Storing your device token (see section 6)
    • Keeping local contextual-feedback eligibility and cooldown state in your browser
  • No tracking cookies are used
  • No analytics cookies that identify you are used
  • No third-party tracking scripts (analytics is privacy-first and cookieless)

9. Data Retention Summary

  • Free-room content: 24 hours maximum, then automatically deleted
  • Pro content: Retained while the subscription is active, subject to 10 GB and 500 items
  • Room codes: Free rooms expire after 24 hours of inactivity; Pro room access follows the account and subscription state
  • Server logs: Retained for operational purposes, periodically rotated
  • Analytics data: Aggregated and retained according to analytics platform policy (90 days)
  • Contextual feedback records: Up to 365 days, including the submitted feedback, selected categories, coarse usage values, submission metadata, and submission IP address

10. Your Privacy Rights

You can protect your privacy by:

  • Using private/incognito browsing mode
  • Not sharing sensitive or personal information through ClipSync
  • Keeping room codes private and sharing only with intended recipients

This privacy policy may be updated occasionally.

  • Changes will be posted on this page
  • The "Last Updated" date will reflect the most recent version
