Privacy Policy

ClipSync is designed to respect your privacy and minimize data collection.
This page explains what data is handled, how long it is stored, and how it is protected.

1. Data Collection & Temporary Storage

ClipSync temporarily stores the text, images, and files you share within a room.

  • Shared items are stored for up to 24 hours
  • After this period, items are automatically deleted from the server
  • ClipSync does not permanently store your clipboard data
  • The service is intended for temporary sharing only

2. Room Codes & Anonymity

ClipSync does not require accounts or personal information.

  • Rooms are identified by randomly generated room codes
  • Anyone with the room code can access the content in that room
  • Room codes are designed to be hard to guess
  • Your identity is not required to use the service

You are responsible for keeping your room code private.

3. Communication Security

Data is transmitted between your device and the server using WebSocket connections.

  • ClipSync uses encrypted HTTPS/WSS connections to protect your data in transit
  • All communication between your devices and the server is encrypted
  • Reasonable technical measures are used to protect data in transit
  • No online service can guarantee absolute security

Do not share sensitive or confidential information using ClipSync.

4. Server Logs

For operational and security purposes, basic server logs may be collected:

  • Connection timestamps
  • IP addresses
  • Technical error information

These logs are:

  • Used only for reliability, debugging, and abuse prevention
  • Not linked to your clipboard content
  • Not used for tracking or profiling users

5. No Third-Party Sharing

ClipSync does not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties.

  • Clipboard content is only visible to devices in your room
  • Data is not used for advertising or analytics profiling
  • No clipboard content is shared outside your room

6. Rate Limiting

Rate Limiting

  • ClipSync applies rate limits to operations (text sharing, file uploads, downloads, etc.)
  • Limits are applied per device to ensure fair usage
  • Rate limits are designed to accommodate normal usage patterns
  • If you exceed a rate limit, you will receive a notification and can retry after the limit resets

7. Privacy-First Analytics

ClipSync uses privacy-first analytics to understand usage patterns and improve the service.

Analytics Approach

  • ClipSync uses Umami Analytics, a privacy-focused analytics platform
  • No cookies are used for analytics
  • No personal information is collected

What is Tracked

  • Page views and session duration (aggregated)
  • Usage patterns (text items shared, files uploaded - counts and sizes only)
  • Feature adoption (which features are used, not who uses them)
  • Technical errors and connection status (for reliability improvements)
  • Device heartbeat (to estimate concurrent active devices)

What is NOT Tracked

  • ❌ No clipboard content or file names
  • ❌ No personal information
  • ❌ No cross-site tracking
  • ❌ No advertising profiling
  • ❌ No raw device identifiers (only hashed values)

All analytics data is pseudonymous and cannot be linked back to you as an individual.

8. Cookies, Local Storage & Tracking

ClipSync minimizes client-side storage:

  • Browser localStorage is used for:
    • Remembering your last room code for convenience
    • Storing your device token (see section 6)
  • No tracking cookies are used
  • No analytics cookies that identify you are used
  • No third-party tracking scripts (analytics is privacy-first and cookieless)

9. Data Retention Summary

  • Clipboard content: 24 hours maximum, then automatically deleted
  • Room codes: Expire after 24 hours of inactivity
  • Server logs: Retained for operational purposes, periodically rotated
  • Analytics data: Aggregated and retained according to analytics platform policy (90 days)

10. Your Privacy Rights

You can protect your privacy by:

  • Using private/incognito browsing mode
  • Not sharing sensitive or personal information through ClipSync
  • Keeping room codes private and sharing only with intended recipients

This privacy policy may be updated occasionally.

  • Changes will be posted on this page
  • The "Last Updated" date will reflect the most recent version
